Graduation Draws Near

I just got an email with the events of graduation weekend. It is crazy
that it is almost here. My classmate and I are sitting here in the
workroom talking about how exicting and terrifying it is at the same
time. Looks like it’ll be a full weekend! Here’s the schedule the sent
me:

LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY
SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

EVENTS OF GRADUATION WEEKEND
MAY 25-27, 2012

Wednesday, May 23
Senior Banquet
6:00 p.m., Wong Kerlee Conference Center
The Senior Banquet is a time to celebrate the Class’ accomplishments
over the past 4 years. It is also a time to recognize and honor the
many special faculty who have guided you through both the basic
science years and your clinical experience. Because of space
limitations, you are invited to bring one guest. Formal invitations
and RSVP cards will be sent in early April.

Friday, May 25
Consecration & Hooding Ceremony
7:00 p.m., University Church
The Consecration & Hooding Ceremony is one of the highlights of your
graduation weekend. This service provides an opportunity for you to
honor your parents/loved ones, and has become a tradition that your
families and guests will not want to miss. You will march in your tam
(cap) and gown and will have the opportunity of inviting 1-2 people to
place your hood on you while you are onstage. This is typically done
by your parents, spouse, other family members or loved ones. You may
also select a special faculty member/mentor. You will receive a
participation form in February asking for the names of those you have
asked to place your hood. You may invite as many family and friends
to attend as you wish but you will be asked to limit the number of
actual participants to 1-2 as the stage is rather crowded that
evening. The program typically ends about 9:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 26
Baccalaureate Service
9:00 a.m., University Church
Baccalaureate is a worship service designed to showcase our graduates
of all faiths and is open to your families and guests. Speaker,
author, sociologist, pastor, social activist and passionate follower
of Jesus, Dr. Anthony Campolo will deliver the baccalaureate address.
Your classmates will also be participating with short vignettes.

Sunday, May 27
Conferring of Degrees
8:30 a.m., University Mall
This is the one event that does not need a description! Joan Lunden,
former host of “Good Morning America”, best-selling author, and
motivational speaker, will give the commencement address. You will
receive detailed instructions on this ceremony in early May. There
are no tickets or passes for this event and seating is first-come.
You may invite as many family and friends to attend as you wish.
Commencement is typically over by 10:30 a.m.

More details will be sent as it gets closer to graduation weekend;
this brief itinerary is for you to share with family and friends to
help in their travel plans for the weekend.

Because graduation is held on Memorial Day weekend, I would encourage
your families to make hotel reservations as soon as possible since
area hotels do tend to fill up that weekend.
