See this thing? It’s almost 3000 pages of medical knowledge. It’s going into my backpack tomorrow. I’m on a month-long elective on the nephrology (kidney) service. There is quite a bit of downtime scattered throughout the day. It has been suggested that I do my share of readings form this textbook. From now on, this will be my ongoing reading project. Hopefully it continues after this month.
I heard of an attending physician who read through this book once during her 3rd and 4th year of medical school. She proceeded to read it through once a year during the three years of her residency.
I hope I have that much discipline. I don’t want to be a good doctor. I want to be a great one.
