Mom Cut My Hair Today
Mom gave me a haircut today. I don't mind. She isn't bad at it. It is nice because she doesn't charge me for it and because I don't have to explain how I want my hair done. She already knows.
It got a bit more exciting than I'd like today when this conversation started as she was finishing up.
Mom: I hope you like the style today.
Me: What?!? What did you change?
Mom: Just a little bit.
Me: WHAT did you change?
Mom: It's ok. It looks good.
I'm going to go to a mirror now. Crossing my fingers.

Family Outing
We are going to Chinatown today. Family outing. For calendars. Why Chinatown? I proposed we look elsewhere for calendars — especially since the mental image I have of the calendars from Chinatown are of cheap productions with cheesy pictures. My suggestion of Barnes & Nobles was shot down because their calendars are too “expensive” (according to Mom). Asian frugality at...

Entertain me.
blanddiva11: I can’t do formspring because people were really mean to me. So email me: blondediva11@gmail.com  or ask me a question here.  If I answer here, I don’t need to use your name if you ask to remain anon. Okay? It makes me sad that I failed to think up an interesting question and thus failed to entertain you. I feel like I am in high school again and the teacher hands a sheet of...

Family Movie Night: The Proposal
The Proposal: "...or should we call you Satan's mistress?"
Mom while peeling a pomegranate: "What? Simmon's Mattresses?"
Sister cracking up and looking to me: "Tweet that!"
As mom never had to speak English until she was 24, these moments happen quite often.

My Frugal Parents & the Convo That Just Took Place
Dad: What do you want to do with this Visa gift card? It's only got $1 on it. Just throw it away?
Mom: We can use it at the 99 cent store.
Dad: The guy probably won't even take it.
Me: You can just tell the cashier to put $1 on that credit card and then the rest on another.
Mom: Yeah!
Me: I wouldn't do it. But you could.

Risque Wednesday
So it seems like right now it’s GPOYW Risque edition and I’m wondering if clicking that little heart-shaped icon can be construed as creepy in any context.

"Tumblarity"
I’m sure it’s been noted before, but doesn’t “tumblarity” make one think of the hilarity that ensues when one takes a tumble? Perhaps this explains the amount of self-deprecation that occurs around these parts?

Dreams
Just woke up from a strange dream. It was a pretty convoluted “storyline” that started off with me running away from the “authorities” in some old-time setting. And by old-time setting I mean a couple hundred years ago. At least that’s how it felt because the people who were chasing me were doing so with swords. Anyhow, the dream ended in a modern day setting where I was at a party. There were...

At REI Today
Me: Are these boots waterproof?
REI Employee: Well it doesn't say it on the shoe, so I would guess not. But it'd be fine for snow, because snow is dry.
I'm trying to remember the look I had on my face when he said that snow is dry, but I'm guessing I looked confused.
Excuse me for being a Southern Californian who didn't know that snow was dry!

Twitter, Tumblr, & Therapy
My online therapist thinks that Twitter and Tumblr are a means to get the external validation we missed out on as kids. I just found out that as part of my ongoing Supportive Therapy my Online Therapist has been starring my tweets. It showed up on my bill. Original Tweets: here & here (need to remember that I now have a tumblr I can use for the 140 plus moments)

Frontal Lobe Error
Don’t you guys just love it when you click on a song someone posted? Don’t you love how there are other interesting things on the page too? Don’t you love how those links are just so tempting? Don’t you love how you click on a link and then the music just abruptly stops? No? Just me, huh?

Overheard Today
Cousin 1: What're you doing?
Cousin 2: Watching a transgender special on TV.
Sometimes the conversations I hear are more interesting than the TV shows I watch. I was with Cousin 2 at the time so I knew what she was watching, but it must've sounded really strange to Cousin 1.

Welcome To My Frontal Lobe
Dear Reader, I originally started blogging in 2006. Along the way I have moved from one platform to the next, eventually arriving at my own domain at JeffreyMD.com. Through that time I tried to keep the topics of my blog very focused on the journey to and through medicine with occasional forays into current events that were related to public health, healthcare, or medicine. I’d also throw...
